My advice would be to take a look at Nikon's D1X. It makes an image of 17.5
Mb (which I think is absolutely necessary to create a file that big, and I
would scale it up to 24 by 36 inches at 90 dpi, and then print it on a large
format inkjetprinter (my advice would be a Epson 10000CF or 9500 because of
the pigmented inks they contain) with the driver set to 1440 dpi. I printed
pictures of an Imacon FlexFrame 3020 backwind (18 Mb) last march during
CeBIT (as a workshop on the EPSON booth) on the way I described above and
they looked absolutely great.
