If I remember the announcement at the GretagMacbeth dinner at Seybold, there
is a new feature in the forthcoming ProfileMaker 4 that will tell you when the
instrument gets too far out of adjustment and requires a return for recertification.
My experience over the last 10 years with Gretag instruments is that unless
you mistreat them (e.g. dropping them, letting them get dirty) or the
associated white references (e.g. letting them get dirty, scratching their
surface), the instruments will maintain their calibration for years.
