Even if we were to give the color accuracy award to spectros to aviod
arguments, the bigger issue for monitor calibration is accurately counting
small numbers of photons leaving the screen from assorted color patches
utilizing one or more of the three guns. This is an area where a colorimeter
has theoretical advantages over a spectro. After all, if you are trying to
accurately count a small number of photons, splitting them up into some
unknown number out of 128 distinct bands does nothing to improve the count!
