If you're arguing that a low-quality colorimeter is outperformed by a
high-quality spectrophotometer, you will find few who will argue with
you. For those who would like to review the science of colorimeters vs
spectrophotometers in more detail, I would recommend the sci.eng.color
archive from April mentioned by the original poster, or the book 'Colour
Engineering' (ed. Green and MacDonald) which will be published by Wiley
early next year.
