This discussion has shown two broad areas where color matching would be
useful: Broadcast and web.
I suspect the broadcast question is more of an app issue. QT support will
only be useful if the apps used in the video production process take
advantage of it. The Colorsync QT Effect is the sort of thing which could
help, but to my knowledge we have seen little or no demand for color
management.
The web delivery question is another matter. Having movies (or other qt
media) look the same across platforms is the biggest issue.
The Mac/Win gamma difference is a big part of this, and we do have support
in QT for gamma correction. Basically you can specify the gamma you want a
movie to use on each platform. This was added a long time ago (perhaps QT
3), but I don't think it gained much notice, and I have no idea how fully
supported it ever was. It's probably one of those things that requires some
support in the the authoring tools. I have to admit that I haven't thought
about it in years. I'm not sure it's even a functioning feature at present.
