I've had success printing from Quark to an Epson 1270 with
no RIP by converting my page to an Acrobat PDF file. I first
convert all my scans to LAB in Photoshop, then Postscript
the page out of Quark 4.04 with the Quark CMS turned off. In
Acrobat Distiller 3.01 (came with the Graphics suite of Apps
from Adobe) I set the Job options to no compression and the
Color settings to unchanged and distill the Postscript file
to a PDF file.
I then simply open the PDF in Acrobat Reader and print using
the Epson driver with my own profile selected for the paper
I want to print on. Seems to work very nicely and I can even
print imbedded Illustrator CMYK EPS files this way.
Mr. Tobie correctly mentioned that you would need an
additional folder in your Preferences folder for older apps
that were compliant with ColorSync 2.0, but the correct name
for this folder used the TM symbol as follows >ColorSynct
Profiles<.
Hope this helps.
