That bias setting will become useful enough if a monitor calibration
software supports black point calibration like we do with our white point.
ISO 2646 (working draft) talk about using a patch 20% of luminance of
monitor to adjust black *bias*. I have some personal work arounds that I
have been testing to do this but no commercial monitor calibration product I
know provides this feature easily or clearly.
Calibrating your black point will help reduce gross compensation in the
shadows to maintain neutrality.
