In glossaries, I find metamerism defined as expected, in terms of same color
looking different under different lighting conditions.
But I read a sidebar in color characterization chapter of *The GATF
Practical Guide to Color Management.* The IT8 Committee calls it different
combinations of dyes that produce the same color appearance.
In another book, lighting conditions include how the paper reflects light.
So I gather all the definitions presented are correct, and would not be
surprised to find more uses for the word.

and was concerned about subtle color changes observed when viewing print
under tungsten and daylight.
