To put this into American English, the SpectroCam UV does not filter out UV
from the returning light, it removes it from the light source that is used in
the sampling. This is similar to the ColorMouse technique, where the source,
not the sample, is UV controlled. This will have no effect on using the
SpectroCam for emissive readings, in those locations where the SpectroCam is
still sold with emissive reading capabilities.
The note about UV fluorescence versus visible spectrum flourescence is very
true as well: all you can expect from UV control is information about paper
whiteners. Fluorescent inks are more likely to steal their extra light from
visible sources than UV, and without checking how much light went out at each
band in the spectrum, as well as how much came back, ( a slow and expensive
process) this is difficult to measure or deal with.
So while I am curious to see how well the new SpectroCam UV will deal with
Epson pigmented inks, I don't expect miracles... if I can manage to get any
results on this before Print '01, I'll let you know.
