I've used the Kami fluid. It is a lot nicer than gel. But you still end up
putting some junk between the drum and (in my case) my precious film and I
really don't want to subject my film to that! Since Netwon rings isn't an
issue with the Flextight and I have two less surfaces to worry about dust
and other possible optical effects of those surfaces, I think the scanner
provides some unique advantages.
The Flextight isn't perfect by any means. But IMHO if you look at the
benefits, the ease of mounting, the quality of the software and how it deals
with ICC worflows (and one can usually train someone to run the scanner in
an hour), the Flextight is a pretty impressive machine at $12K to $15K a
pop.
