Me I'm happy (too) to have a $400 printer that comes pretty close to an IRIS
and predicts very well in rgb the photographic images going onward to better
3 colour devices AND (even if the dithering looks like popcorn) have the
option of sending thru Postscript which resembles the majority of presses
that the images go onto, over which I have absolutely no control. Nor should
the unions be willing to charts for profiling. It's not for the lack of
demanding!
There is still an important place for the 'little RIP's' for the suppliers
of images to out-sources, printers who don't offer supplier intervention on
press. It's like having a doctor's second opinion on the same subject. Both
are valid and useful offering , perhaps a little insight and description of
the details contained there within.
Now if we could get the screening of PressReady with the colour accuracy
of the big RIP's.....
