As somebody who has routinely set up BEST RIPs/Epson 5000s for small design

objection I run into is this whole AbsCol/paper white issue. After
installation and explaining how the proof-to-press match is done and that
"ugly paper caste you see is SUPPOSED to be there", it never fails that
within a week I'll get an email asking how to get rid of that ugly paper
caste! After fighting it and explaining WHY that's a bad idea, I'm resigned
to the fact they want to see a nice white proof. My solution is to set up
two print queues; 1) a "comping queue" for internal proofs only is set up
for press/proof matching with a RelCol intent and 2) a second queue is set
up for final/press proofing with an AbsCol intent. I then simply ask them to
trim off the excess paper white and send off the proofs to the printer. Now
everybody's happy!
That mirrors my experience exactly. Designers rarely want the bad
news, and are much happier with overly-optimistic relcol renderings.
