Does anyone know how I can get extended DTP41 RGB charts for PrintOpen ?
The point here is that when you have a printer that only accepts data
through the QuickDraw or GDI printing pipeline, you can't sample all
the secondary and tertiary CMYK combinations. It makes no sense at
all to have something as complex as the IT8.7-3 with 900 patches for
a printing pipeline that doesn't even accept CMYK.
People are trying to use all sorts of stuff for publishing workflows,
much of it with so many limitations it is like jumping through hoops
backwards. Or more specifically like rasterizing full QuarkXPress EPS
pages in Photoshop on poor Gertie the G3 with a brain volume of only
384Mb RAM -:).
BTW there is an update for the white backing in the DTP41, which you
should get. The new white backing is raised and addresses the problem
mentioned in abcB that the manual spectro and strip spectro fetch up
with white points that are L* 1.5 - L* 2 apart. There is also an
update for Printopen to v4.0.5, and Quark just announced that v5 is
available as public beta.
As Fred Ebrahimi over at Quark has decided not to wait for JohnZ to
tie up the code strings for OS X, I'm hoping the InDesign folks will
show a little more patience, and JohnZ a little more speed -:).
