Trouble with getting consistent results from various printing houses. I run
a photographic department that digitally photographs works of art for
high-end repress needs. Our work flow is
Digital Capture (Phase One FX) at 48 bit
Assign device profile then convert to Adobe RGB 1998
Color correct image in D-50 proofing environment (GTI proof lights 5k,
Barco monitors set to D55[matches the hue better than D-50] gamma 2.2].
Photoshop is our color correction tool. The RGB settings are Adobe RGB
working space, Apple CMM engine, no black point.
Send the press guys a 24 bit Adobe RGB 1998 embedded color corrected
RGB image with a grey scale. I even send a RGB guide print (Fuji Picto)
and a readme file describing our methodology.
Some vendors give me pretty good results, 50 percent or higher give me
results that are awful.
One recent vendor gave me a contract proof that was so magenta I thought
the tiff file was corrupted.
Am I doing something methodologically flawed, or is this whole ICC work
flow thing a joke? What can I do to help insure quality results from a
variety of press houses.
