I use colorsync 2.6 with OS 8.6 (which
already came with the G4s, so I can't upgrade to Colorsync 3.0.3, for it
will only run on OS 9), and ANY photoshop.

That was a bug in the Default Calibrator in ColorSync 2.6, you need to upgrade to a newer version.
