The Rip I was supplied with the HP 20PS printer only has the options for
'two input' (first) - one RGB and one CYMK profiles - and one printer
profile (second). The printer profile is tied to the media options, only
leaving the input profile(s) to define how the page data is coming in - or
is it defining how the 20PS should simulate printed output as well ?
Regarding my first post, the supplied rip does in fact automatically change
the 8.3 paper profile name when the media option is changed. So a user does
not need to change the 8.3 named icc profiles for the printer (as I
previously reported in my first post).
The printer does have the ability to print a automatic calibration chart,
then the printer automatically scans the chart (yes it's pretty cool to
watch) then applies a color correction curve to the supplied profile.
The curve did some minor adjustments to the colors, but it did not solve the
blue cast in the gray balance of the output. This is based on setting the
input curve to an Agfa proof profile, as the supplied SWOP input profile
does not have this blue gray balance.
There does not seem to be the ability to run the rip without a supplied
profile, so therefore building a custom printer (paper and ink) profile
would only be done with the BEST rip, or the new Heidelberg 50PS when it
arrives in 2002 . . .
