But I'm afraid we'll have to wait for the proper technology to
find out who's right.
Actually I think the definitive answer on camera profiling is far more easily determined. Based on the last eight years of wrestling with this, the answer in my mind is very clear. The time I spend fooling around trying to match client product colors has rapidly (ok 8 years ain't exactly rapid) been reduced from an average of 20-30 minutes per shot down to less than 1 minute each. Now lets be very clear about this, I use only one profile per camera, because profiling has nothing to do with lighting. I shoot in the studio, on location, indoors and out, under tungsten, strobe, sodium vapor, mercury vapor, fluorescent and god only knows what else. I very carefully gray balance each shot and use ONE profile for all lighting conditions. If there are so many people having trouble making camera profiles I would suggest they carefully review their process and tools for making them. Even lighting, accurate gray balance and the use of one light or 2 perfectly color matched lights is absolutely critical. If these criteria are not met you might as continue to say it can't work. The philosophical discussion of this has been interesting but I would much rather rely on facts, and I'm lookin at them every day
