Adriano,
I do not know anything about Flowdrive but have been using PS-Link and
Newage for some six years. I also have not used an Epson machine in this
scenario yet but instead been using a couple of Encad and HP plotters (the
latter definitely more successfully) as form proofers. They haven't even
been profiled (as I don't want to waste my time explaining why there are
some magenta and/or cyan dots in the yellow patches of the control
strips:-).
But I do have calibrated the printers with the dot gain extension (and I
think this one hasn't changed since PS-Link 2.2.1:-) so I can assure you
haven't missed any settings for ink limits. With dot gain extension you're
only able to control the settings per-channel (max ink, linearization). So
in a non-profiled scenario there is no chance to change the total ink.
Coming back to your problem: As you're writing you're going to use ICC
profiles in your workflow to the proofer I don't see the necessity of
defining a total ink limit during the calibration. Provided you're using
some kind of "higher-end" profiling software (e.g. Heidelberg, Gretag) you
will be able to set it during the profile creation process. And when using
the profile its total ink will be applied.
Hope this helps,
Jo Euler
P.S. (just in case any Creo folks are on this list) in Prinergy/Harmony not
even the reduction of the ink amount per-channel is possible. So bad luck
when trying to use very thin paper...
P.P.S. I did not yet have the pleasure to talk to Danish supporters (as P-E
has a highly skilled Germany-based support team) but basd on my somewhat
limited experience with Henrik I can confirm the Danish are very friendly
people.
