Gray Management (was Embedding Profiles in images?)
Gray Management (was Embedding Profiles in images?)

For us this is an issue because we are interested in producing
digital files that are device independent.
Specifically, that can be printed to different output devices,
over time, with some hope of similar appearance.
I was (apparently naively) assuming
that once one has a functioning color management workflow,
gray scale images would flow right along with the color.
It leaves me a bit breathless that what I can do with correct choices
in managing color images, I can NOT do with gray scale images.
Especially considering that gray scale
is likely to be more frequent than color in our work.
My experience is that a gamma assumption
can make a huge difference in how a gray scale file prints.
So it matters.
What are the normal production workflows
(besides printing from Photoshop)
that people are using to keep gray scale images printing predictably
on both color and black & white devices?

This is, IMHO, a truly *horrible* omission. Why, why, oh why, did Adobe
