Any one tried 'ProfileMaker Pro 4.0 MAC OSX Beta' yet ?
I can now answer my own question with a yes :)
I put the Mini-iDock away, and used the Keyspan - thanks Andrew.
Although, I have found that it's not working out as I assumed.
I have previously worked with OptiCal, and found the PreCal steps essential
for calibrating the CRT monitor before profiling. Now I am using a 14" iBook
at home for testing PM 4.0 X beta and the only visible settings for the LCD
is for brightness only. I found a utility to set the Gamma within Mac OS X,
but that only hindered the process.
When I set my brightness to what PM 4.0 (Mac OS X beta) suggests for my
brightness (about 65%) it reports that my RGB 'guns' readings are way out. I
can still profile the monitor, and the background white does not come close
to the white point patch that comes with the Spectrolino. I get the same
from PM 4.0 (Mac OS 9.2)
I am thinking that ambient lighting can effect an LCD more so than a CRT :(
When I set the brightness to 100%, the RGB 'guns' readings are now between
maximum and the optimal midpoint, and the background white now is within
visual tolerance of the supplied white point patch.
I also found that when I selected my newly build profile in the Colorsync
system preference of Mac OS X for the Monitor profile for documents, some of
my dialog boxes went blue (the background of the LCD monitor in the menu bar
and also the background of the system start up disk system preferences) - it
is only a beta . . .
As for the whole PM 4.0 package, well it's like looking from the other side
of the looking glass - I feel like Homer in the 3D world - hhhmmm pretty
colors . . .
I have used the others: PrintOpen, Monaco, Colorblind and even the PraxiSoft
option, and this software has all the bells and whistles, I just need to
find them. If anyone could point me to some documentation that goes beyond
the supplied html help files, I will be very thankful.
Maybe even if Gretag Macbeth had a user group or user forum for this
software ?
Darrin.
