This worked well with matte papers, but I've just started working with
lustre papers, and the previews are wacky. I suspect the much lower L
values of the 100% ink may be messing things up.
Richard,
I would check first your monitor settings, normally with matte papers the
preview appears to dark when custom profiles made by Photoshop are used,
because they always display the blackest black possible of the simulated
device within the monitor's capability, what means Photoshop profiles always
behave black point relative.
I think the basic issue here and with other similar cases (what means not
only Photoshop profiles) is that the simulation of black and/or the blackest
black possible is not always correct, just like sometimes the simulation of
paper white needs some adjustments, depending on workflow and device
combinations/conditions.
I came up with a point like this a few days ago on this list with the
question if it is possible to alter the Black Point, just like it is
possible to alter the White Point. It is possible, but people are reserved
about giving information how to do it. Perhaps it would be enough being able
to move black up or down the L-axis.
Regards, Andre Schuetzenhofer
