Hi Folks,
I am wondering if anyone else has seen this problem and/or found a solution.
We have a customer with a Quicksilver Mac, Apple 22" LCD display and 20" CRT display. Both displays are plugged into the same stock card in the Quicksilver. Eye-One Monitor used for screen calibration.
When both displays are attached, the calibration & profiling does not go well. Bad neutrals, etc.
When only one display is attached and the system booted up, the calibration works well. When the user calibrates both displays in this isolated mode, both work well.
When he starts up with both displays attached and ensures the respective profiles are selected and the proper vcgt curves are loaded into the card (by toggling back and forth with another profile), the calibration is bad again.
It seems the last one calibrated looks best but I'm not sure if this is reliable.
At this point I thought it was the possibility that the main display had the right profile and the other was using an unknown profile. But this has been thoroughly tested to ensure the correct curve is in the respective display's card. (virtual card I guess as they share the same physical card)
I am now at the point where I am wondering if the card behaves quite differently when two displays are attached. I recall the discussions of stock cards outputting lower voltages than 3rd party PCI cards. As one display is driven digitally and the other analog perhaps this should not play a role? maybe exacerbates the problem?
It seems the next test is to try one or both of the displays on an additional PCI card and see if that makes the difference. The customer is starting to lose his patience by now - as I know I would have - so I am looking for any more information or ideas before he has to get another card.
Any ideas?
Regards,
Steve
