If you're printing to PressReady from Photoshop it should just send the data
in Postscript as it always has. Could be that your settings have changed
somewhere.

or should we just keep the 1270 and possibly get the Best Color for it.
The 9600 is a big printer that merits considering a good rip. Depends on
your needs. Best Designer Edition can get good proofs yet the PC version has
a lot more production features that are so nice to use. There is a new Photo
version that links rgb to print or proof with some of the PC features. Suits
photographers shooting with digital cameras in studios.
The Epson 1270 has a few questionable color problems for proofing or just
plain rgb printing. Adobe PressReady has excellent screens and is Adobe
Postscript 3. Best Designer Edition can be networked, has limited
linearisation features (thus you can use any paper/ink combos), is still
being developed, and can be used on many models. Epson 1270's and PressReady
have reached the end of their life. The big question is our need for OS X
rips ASAP.
