Subject: Color Proofing with the Epson 1520?
From: Marco Ugolini <email@hidden>
To: <email@hidden>
Has anybody had any success using the EPSON StylusColor 1520 as an
accurate
color proofing device?
If so, how did you do it? My Epson 1520 has an Ethernet card, and is
PostScript-enabled. I can print to it with either through the EPSON
driver
(SC 1520(AT)), or through the Epson Stylus RIP software, accessed via
the
AdobePS driver.
I also have access to a Spectroscan measurement device and
ProfileMaker 4
software. I have experience in setting up - successfully - a DuPont
Cromalin
Color Station at my place of work, but I have failed miserably so far
trying
to create profiles for the StylusColor 1520 from test charts (CMYK and
RGB)
provided by Gretag Macbeth in the ProfileMaker package.
Is there a way to achieve viable color proofing results with this
device and
with these instruments?

Hi, Ithink you may have more success using a different RIP. I failed to
get
good results with the Stylus RIP but have achieved reasonable profiles
when
using the iProof PowerRIP software. Also printing via a usb to parallel
cable or even a serial cable is quicker than the Ethernet card on this
model!

Sure. One method is to open the file in MatLab and save as text. It can
then be
opened in Excel or whatever.
An alternative is to save the file as raw, then open in a text editor
and
convert from hex.
Remember that lab tiffs are normally uint8, so you need to offset and
scale the
numbers encoded in the tif file to get back to the lab data.

Subject: duplex 2 lab
Date: Fri, 9 Aug 2002 14:34:53 +0200
Hi group,
in photoshop I use the black channel of a cmyk profile for grayscale
images
and for spot colors (which should also be working for duotone images).
When I have a grascale image which is white and I convert to lab I see
the paper color as a lab value.
When I do the same thing with a duplex which has white parts I get
a lab conversion of L100 a0 b0 in those parts.
I need to convert duplex images correctly to lab though which means that
I want him to use exactly the same parameters for the duotone colors as
for grayscale images.
Is there anyway I can achieve this ?

Hi Phil,
I don't have MatLab but something that can be
Excel'd would be greatly appreciated.
.. and it should be easy ;-)

Subject: Multi-channel CMM
From: wskhoo <email@hidden>
To: <email@hidden>
Hello there all,
I was asked about CMM. Is there any CMM that could handle multi-channel?
i.e. Multi channel profile on a multi channel printer. Is there any CMM
engine could handle it?
Thank you,
Warm regards,
Khoo Wei Siang
