Please excuse the cross posting....We are at wits end.
Those whacky guys at Epson have come up with what they think will cure our
micro-banding problem on our Epson 7000.
We use Indelible Inks, and they feel (after examining the ink dots under a
microscope) that the banding is being caused by the ink drops *not* spreading
(not enough dot gain) when they hit the paper.
Since we are using Epson Archival Matte paper (pigment inks), and have chosen
'Photo Quality Inkjet Paper' as the media in the printer driver, (and the PQIP
setting lays down the most ink of all the possible settings) the only way to
gain more ink is via the 'Color Controls' setting, in the 'Advanced' dialogue
box, in the printer/driver, is to use the 'saturation' slider to add to the dot
gain. (whew! got that?)
Well, we tried that, and it does not seem to really add anything. And oddly, we
got the darkest print using the -25 setting in the 'Saturation' slider.
Also, when we go to the 'Color Control' settings, it throws a monkey wrench in
the profile, as, I think, it then double profiles. Normally we would use 'No
Color Controls' with our profile....Which gives us a great screen match, and a
*very* neutral greyscale.
Does anyone have any other ideas for increasing dot gain (short of a rip) or
going to dye inks, which is not really an option?
Thanks to all who have any ideas.
