Michael,
In my whole existence, I've never expressly heard anyone breathe the phrases
"image quality" and "dot gain" together. Of course, dot gain, if not
compensated for, will ruin your print project...but to say that
"such-and-such dot gain will result in bad image fidelity" well, I've never
heard that.
Dot gain is, was, and always will be a process control measurement to verify
"1st sheet" to "10,000th sheet" consistency...at least in my mind anyway. I
guess that means I agree with you.
