Hello, Joseph.
From my experience designers and especially not clients, they just do not
want to deal with these kind of problems and they certainly don?t want to
pay for it. That results in an offsite device which will not be maintained
properly.
Back in the analogue days photographers used to produce a transparancy,
which was also the proof of the quality of their work and that was perfectly
fine with everybody involved (even the ones still using photoshop 5 without
colormanagement). In the digital days it is the photographers fault if
anybody in the chain of production (especially the ones using ps5) messed up
the files.
That is why you must provide a digital proof with your calibrated,
converted, proofed and tagged 4c ( yes 4c!) files. My advice is to look for
a professional imaging service provider, who will give you a good deal on
proofs (either Iris4print or Epson 5000 / Best combo). Then deliver your
files (4c!) accompanied by a proof to your customer.
You might as well invest in an inhouse Epson 5000 / Best combo, provide your
customers with digital proofs and charge them for it...;o)
Greetings,

Betreff: off site profiling - how to?
Hello Folks,
I photograph digitally and have embraced device profiles for both my
personal and commercial work. I still have areas where I need to
improve but for the most part ColorSync is working for me. One
trouble I have and I suppose photographers have always had this
problem is dealing with the folks downstream.
Just because I calibrate and profile doesn't mean the client or
designer does and I need to deal with this somehow. If my files
don't look good on their systems then I am a "bad" photographer.
I would like to profile (or teach to profile) my clients monitors
and their inkjet printers so they can more accurately view and print
my photos. I am looking for "affordable" and legal options for
dealing with this sort of occasional off site profiling.
Currently I use mostly ColorBlind MatchBox and ProveIt! for my
studio. I think it is a violation of the software license to build a
profile for someone who doesn't have their own ColorBlind software.
To profile a monitor each machine needs a licensed copy of ProveIt!
which is fine but for profiling inkjets it is a bit steep for each
machine to have MatchBox. Have I got this right?
I will be attending Seybold SF looking for profiling solutions for
the above described need. Does anyone have suggestion that you are
willing to share with me?
Thank you kindly,
Joseph
