For colors in images, such as a Pantone value selected in Photoshop and
pasted into an image, there is no special support, the general color
management and the original recipe values of that Pantone match are used. For
vector colors, where there are named colors handed off to the PostScript
file, then the RIP can intercept those calls for named colors, and replace
whatever value was previously specificed with a special recipe. These named
color callouts can be done from a fixed table (as with lasers) or from values
determined from a custom device profile, via the library of Lab values for
that Pantone library, so that the Lab value of that Pantone color is directly
converted to the best match in the device's color profile.
