You are correct in thinking that the controls on the Mitsubishi Diamond Pro
2040u are basically two different interfaces to the same adjustments.
If you adjust the white point using the RGB Gain controls, then adjust
using the Color Temperature control, it will overwrite the RGB Gain values
that you adjusted previously, with the values for the color temperature
that you selected. The actual RGB Gain values are calculated by the monitor
when you adjust the Color Temperature control.
Likewise if you adjust the white point using the Color Temperature control,
then adjust using any of the RGB Gain controls, the value for the Color
Temperature will disappear, since the monitor is no longer set to a white
point that corresponds to an exact color temperature.
My advice is to use the Color Temperature control to set the monitor to the
numerical color temperature that you want, then if necessary use the RGB
Gain controls to make minor tweaks. Better still, only adjust the Blue and
Red Gain controls so you avoid chasing your own tail with the adjustment.
Hope that helps!
