Greetings,
I have been evaluating a couple of different digital camera profiling
packages and wonder what might be a good objective way to evaluate
the quality of their profiles.
I have tried evaluating a profile by photographing a MacBeth
ColorChecker (just after having built a profile) and comparing the
LAB values of the ColorChecker's reference chart to the image in
PhotoShop. One program I used can match the LAB values remarkably
well while another program I have tried doesn't match the LAB values
so well. This comparison is under controlled lighting with identical
camera settings so the only variation in a practical way is the
software itself.
I assume that the software that does the better job of matching the
LAB values of a ColorChecker is building the better profile. This
comparison however is just regarding 24 solid colors and the real
world of gradient color is a different situation so perhaps I ought
to be looking at other things too.
Does anyone have suggestions on what to look for and how best to
evaluate camera profiles?
Thank you kindly,
Joseph
