Colour instruments are notoriously inconsistent in any case. At one
stage we gathered the 6 or 7 colorimter/spectro instruments we have
here, and measured a few samples. The biggest differences were for
saturated colors (there's a reason the data sheets only mention accuracy
against a white standard tile!), and in some case were as
large as 10 delta E. In setting up proofing profiles we have
to use the same model (and preferably same instrument) for
the source and destination profiling, or very noticeable errors
result. If we use (say) a Gretag Spectroscan for the source
profile, and an X-rite DTP41 for the destination profile, then
an extremely obvious yellow cast results, yet these are two
instruments in relatively good agreement.
