I nearly fell out of my chair when I read that! If it is true (and I have
no
reason to doubt you) then just think of the confusion that will result
when
people unknowingly use and compare these D65 Lab values against the D50
Lab
found in other instruments, Photoshop, ICC, etc. Big mistake on Pantone's
part, IMO.
This device is not intended for color geeks to measure Lab values with. Its
meant for end users to place on a color they like, to find what Pantone
number will get them that color in their print work. It is also not intended
for users to second guess their printers by checking Pantone to Process
conversion final color in print jobs. Mostly designers will use it when
clients say "I don't know what our coporate Pantone colors are, just match
them from our old brochure"... but this only works if you have a fairly large
flat area of the color to match.
And it's better than doing an eyeball match to a swatch book because....
