Yes in the case of monitors what we want is to simulate a color
temperature, not a SPD. However the difference between a cool white and a
warm white is the same difference between a neutral white and a slightly
yellow white that might make up the material of a shirt. The idea that
that a colorimeter will make more accurate measurements when calibrating
a monitor to have a whitepoint of 5000K (or D50), versus 6500K (or D65)
makes no sense to me.
