In my experience, which varies by printer so this is a generalization,
the print changes dramatically after 10 minutes, quite a bit after
an hour, and doesn't really stabilize until 24 hours. I had some actual
numbers from some studies we did once, but I don't have them any
more, sorry, it was from PressReady days... The upshot is that if
you're measuring your targets within an hour, the target has shifted
quite a bit from when you started, especially if you use something
slow like a spectrolino. We also measured variability between
inkjet engines, and were surprised (and disappointed) by the results.
There was only one manufacturer who made really consistent heads.
The upshot was that consistent color is mostly impossible with
canned profiles; we just did our best with the mean... Some engines
are now doing self-calibration, which is a good thing, especially for
those manufacturers whose printers really need it.
I consider myself fortunate that I work on the color management
in Acrobat now, so I work only in the realm of the theoretical
and get to leave those messy issues of how printers actually
work (or don't) to you guys!

Hi folk's !
I have a confused situation here. I'm make many ink/paper profiles
(Epson/guardian inks x Best paper's/Epson/alike's) using many RIP's
(Best/ORIS/PressReady/Iproof), and everything It's allright, until a costumer
to ask me about average color changes along 1 hour /2 hours / 1 day /2 days /1
week..herrr..I'm embarrassed to confess my ignorance about this subject. My
doubt's:
- How much time can I expect drastic color changes in my proof using the above
combination?
There are a role to consider? eg. poor papers& ink's/ 2 hour's of fidelity -
proof paper's & ink's / 2 day's? a week?
