Brown reds

I am currently setting up a colour managed workflow for my client who is
a publisher of art prints. Along with the commercially run offset
versions they are wanting to sell the reproductions printed directly
onto canvas. They purchased an Epson 10000 Printer using Epson Colorfast
inks (pigment based) and Epson canvas.
I have set up the workflow such that files would be sent from
QuarkXpress on a Mac to a Pentium 3 server running the BEST XXL
Colorproof RIP (4.5.2) software. The spectrophotometer I am using is the
i1 from Gretag Macbeth. To build the paper profiles I am using
ProfileMaker Pro (4.0) from Gretag. The results I have gotten have been
a reasonably good match to the printed version, except for the reds. A
crimson red in the printed item is reproducing on the canvas as almost
an ochre/brown colour. Browns and flesh tones are coming out pretty good
but the reds are way out of whack. I feel the problem lies in the paper
profile. When I convert to profile in Photoshop and select the paper
profile I can see on screen the same results I am getting on print. I
was wondering if anybody out there has experienced this problem as well?
