...you will want to rethink your luminance choices now that you have a much
brighter display available. You can choke it back to match a CRT, but thats a
shame... The best setting in OptiCAL is to use Native WhitePoint, which
should be about 6500 anyways. Setting the whitepoint to 5000k will do mean
things to the gray balance on the Apple Displays. There was a bug in some of
the recent PhotoCAL/OptiCAL releases that required a dot upgrade to fix a
gamma issue. Go to <http://www.colorcal.com/software_upgrades.html> and
download the x.5.1 update to your software if you don't have it.

What's a realistic BlackPoint on the Apple LCD's? I recently received my LCD Spyder
& OptiCal upgrade & found it unable to deal with any "brightness" setting lower than
.60 on my 17" LCD Studio Display. I've used .30 as an aimpoint with CRT's with
good results before.

You're right about the luminance though; to get a value close to 100-120 the monitor
seems quite dim. Strange to see possible values approaching 180 after using CRT's
for so long. Does a high value setting in any way adversely affect the LCD's
useable lifespan?
