I've been following this list for quite a while, and it's been very useful
in helping me piece together an admittedly basic understanding of color
management. Which explains how it is that I find myself with a tangle of
cables in one hand and a bunch of questions in the other, hoping you might
be able to help.
I've got two Epson 5000 printers, each driven by it's own Fiery RIP and
networked to a single NT server. Both printers make use of a copy of a
profile that was created by my predecessor, and which produces reasonably
good color. The problem is that it's becoming increasingly apparent the two
printers are experiencing some color-drift, and this has prompted me to
start looking into ways to calibrate these two printers.
I've been combing through the manuals for ColorFlow, ColorWise Pro Tools,
and the Gretag spectrophotometer at my disposal, and I was hoping for some
advice on whether [and how] I can get these printers back to where they
should be with the assets I've got, or if I might need additional
software/hardware to make that happen.
It *seems* like it should just be a matter of getting each Epson to print a
calibration sheet, reading those sheets with the Gretag, and then
communicating the results back to the printers somehow. Problem is I'm
really not sure how best to make that happen. And ideas?
Much appreciated,
Steve
