I an new to this, and may be speaking out of turn, but :

The problem is the outside suppliers of Brian all want to play by their
own rules, not ICC. However, all these people will employ some internal
calibration procedures that ensure their respective processes are stable
over time.

The solution may be that Brian invest in a spectrophotometer of his
own, profile his suppliers results himself by running some charts through
them, profile his own local proofing devices, calibrate his monitors to
whatever space he likes most and get on with his life.

I am sure the above "simple solution" has some interesting conceptual and
pratctical faults. Please tell me about them because it is what I myself
plan to do, faced with a world out there that ignores ICC.

Edmund
