Calibrating Monitors with Eye One

This may sound daft, but how can I calibrate a Monitor that uses digital
displays for Contrast and Brightness etc. I tried on my LaCie 22" Electron
Blue and the display kept on getting in the way of the Eye One spectro.
Any idea's would be much appreciated.
