There have been a number of posts on the list referring to a red cast in
Photoshop when monitor profiles have been made in Windows using the new
Optical update 3.5. In my case I think the term cast suggests something more
mild than the reality. It appears to be as though it is a pure red in that
only one gun is producing the colour and there is a total absence of green
and blue. It effects all display areas of Photoshop from the actual image
through to the colour picker but not items such as tools etc. What I have
found is that Optical somehow appears to corrupt all the monitor profiles
and none of the profiles in the colour folder will render correct colour
in Photoshop. Images are displayed OK in other applications apart from Adobe
(Acrobat is effected too). In my case unlike as reported by Matt Smith,
profiles made by an earlier version did not work either. I uninstalled
Optical and loaded an earlier version but no luck. In the end I created a
profile in Adobe gamma and the colour corrected immediately. I then reloaded
Optical 3.5 calibrated and profiled but received an error dialog box saying
the profile could not be associated with the monitor. When I manually
associated it, the colour in Photoshop reverted to red, when I again made
the Adobe Gamma profile the default all was well again. At the moment my
monitor will have to remain with the Adobe Gamma as I am at a loss as to how
to remedy the situation and as it is near midnight downunder it will have to
wait for a new day, maybe the fairies will fix it.
I am running Photoshop 6 and a Matrox G400 Millennium graphics card. Any
suggestions welcome but I feel the real solution will have to be delivered
by Colorvision.
