Hi Tom and Henrik,
it is everytime the same problem, what is wrong or right. I can only explain
the way we use for profiling the Inkjets for our Best RIP.
The past: At first we (Best) started with Gretag Spectrolino and
Spectroscan, the result was to bad in the light tones (to dark) and we
surched for the reason. The reason was the black table and we started to
place 3 sheets of original Paper in the back of measurment sheet and we got
much better results.
After we had installed the 3 Spectrolino we thought about a faster solution
and we start with a DTP41. The results were not so good like the results we
had with the Spectrolino (to dark in the light tones), but we had measured
with Whitepanel and not with the black one. I measured the White Panel and
found it was darker than the White from the Calibration Patch of the
Spectrolino. I placed then also original paper at the White panel (you can
tape one or two stripes at the base of the DTP41, but be carefull with the
transportatiopn rollers) and everything was good and much faster.
Today: Now we use a SpectroFiler from X-Rite (PO Extended Chart in 4.5
Minutes). The Black Track we covered with Roland Glossy Vinyl and I think
our Canned profiles work well enough.
But this is our way and for some workflows you must measure at black. i.e.
the IFRA measure only at black and so you must measure your Paperprofile
also at black.
You see it isn't so easy and depends on the workflow you want to profile.
Best regards
Ulf Grossmann
