While the "contact us" pages steadfastly refuse to offer a real world
address, the feature sets and especially the term "fingerprint", as well as
the insistance that it is superior to an ICC profile, fit exactly with the
features of the late Aurelon RIP. Aurelon was a good RIP, but had an
impossible marketing strategy for the US. As well as insisting that their
proprietary workflow was superior (which was certainly possible), they wanted
a rather high price to be able to "fingerprint" your output devices, and
those fingerprints could only be used for proofing, not for file conversion.
Unless your designers, service bureaus anad printers all jumped on the
proprietary wagon, there were problems. They also did not drive image
setters, so it was a seperate RIP for proofing from film or plate making. And
while they insisted it was really easy to use, configuring it and getting it
running on your inkjet was not trivial. Tough sell, which led before long to
chapter 11. I had heard they were regrouping in Europe, and this must be it.
