Hi group,
I posted a question a few weeks ago about the latest
developments in profile editing software. I'm sorry I couldn't
reply sooner...I've been snowed under with work since then
and haven't had much time!
As I expected, you get what you pay for. Lots of $$$ for the good stuff.
I'd still be interested to find the cheapest solution for my own
difficulties with my "best" profile.
I'm using an Epson 7500 with pigment inks. I've had three custom
profiles made for it up to now and they're all useless. The RIP I use
is Shiraz from England. I love it and am pretty sure the problems
are down to profiles and not to RIP peformance.
The only profile I have that really delivers the goods is one
made by the RIP manufacturer for semi gloss paper. It's very
sharp and contrasty and I get really accurate contract proofs
(compared to Iris and wet proofs) from it. the reds could do with
a bit more colour and the black is so long I get speckles in the
light greys and pastel tones. I'd like to tweak this profile rather
than start testing alternative profiles that end up having other
weaknesses in the end...(time, ink and paper wastage).
Could I shorten the length of the black using the affordable DoctorPro,
for instance? I thought maybe a little gradation and colour
correction in these areas may suffice. I only need a decent printer profile.
I have dozens of high quality output / separation profiles from the large printer
groups I work with, so a full blown expensive solution may be too much.
thanks
Barry
