I don't think so. It's like people that ask for the "perfect" (correct)
settings for Unsharp Mask. It's so image dependant (and in the case of USM,
output and size dependant).
Prior to Photoshop 6 most people recommended a Perceptual Rendering Intent
for images. I guess at the time, if you had to pick one intent and then
ignore the consequences, this was a good idea. I find that more times than
not, a Relative Colorimetric Intent is what I want after viewing the
differences in Photoshop 6. So based on that, if I had to force someone into
using one intent (you held a gun to our heads), I'd probably pick Relative.
But a there are a few things to keep in mind. Software products that create
profiles can use whatever secret sauce they want when deciding how to
produce a Perceptual mapping. Some do it a lot better than others. Some
images (those that have a lot of out of gamut colors) will (in theory)
produce "better" results using Perceptual. But again, it's somewhat of a
guessing game (less so when you actually look at the differences and pick
accordingly). It may not be a prefect science but for now, viewing the
differences in Photoshop is the best method using the best tool we have.
