Try displaying a CMYK image WITHOUT a profile embedded. It would be nice
if the OS would assume a reasonable CMYK source from the ColorSync panel
instead of an inverted RGB space that makes untagged CMYK images look
like they're RGB.

My understanding is that yes it is capable of dealing with CMYK data from
app to driver, but there appears to be no printer driver accepting CMYK.
So if you send CMYK from an application to such a device, the OS does an
inversion to get RGB, then passes it off onto the driver. In my
experience I get worse results when printing CMYK images from OS X than
from OS 9, as the OS 9 apps I print from are making less disastrous
assumptions about how to do the CMYK-RGB conversion before generating the
print stream.
