I personally do not use 35mm film. Almost all of my photography is shot with 4x5 Ektachrome.
However we do scan quite a bit of 35mm for other photographers, and many of them request the
100Mb files.
I'd also like to add another interesting wrinkle. On a couple of occasions I was asked to
blow up a postage stamp sized area of a transparency for an 8.5x11 reproduction in one of my
photography publications. The images were very sharp, with lots of detail. I scanned at 5000
dpi and tried to rez up to suit the requirements of the screening. Did not like the results.
I then made an enlarged duplicate transparency, scanned that, and the results were quite
lovely. That would imply to me that there was more information in the film than I could
obtain at 5000 dpi.

In my work photographing art I have always been able to light objects in a way that brings
all of the detail within the dynamic range of the film. I cannot say the same for
photographing architecture and interiors. However, is something like the BetterLight
suitable for such location photography? If so, that would have made my work much easier when
I still shot architecture.
