On the Mac, I think if you load a display profile that:
a) has a vcgt tag present, and
b) the vcgt tag represents a ramp,
then a ramp will get loaded into the video LUTs, forcing the display system
back to a null state.
A couple months ago I sent you (off-list) a set of six monitor profiles for
testing vcgt related issues (they were called A.icc through F.icc). Profiles
C.icc and D.icc both have a null vcgt tag as described above. You might want
to try them to see if they have the desired effect.
