it's the blue & white tripod/Bucky Fuller model from ca. 1999 or so. it's
hooked to a blue & white G3 (and yeah the USB is connected). this machine
runs system 8.6, and I don't plan to change that because we need a machine
with an older OS for testing.
anyway, the calibration routine in the Monitors & Sounds control panel fails
every time. the error message is something like "calibration failed due to
an unknown error, resetting to factory defaults." is it possible there's a
software component missing? the machine came to us from another group who
may have messed up the extensions, but I didn't see anything amiss in the
extensions manager. of course if they trashed something, I wouldn't know.
I'd reinstall the OS but natch the system 8.6 CD that came with it is long
gone, and I don't have another one.
could the monitor have some kind of defect that is causing this error? how
good is this internal calibration anyway without any kind of hardware
measuring the colors on the display anyway?
I'd as soon use a hardware calibration device if there's a way to shut off
the OS calibration stuff so it wouldn't keep popping up dialogs asking to
calibrate the display.
