do I need to have someone create a profile for my specific printer?
The ones that come with Photoshop might be fair representations of assorted
press types, buth they do not offer accurate descriptions of your monitor and
in-house printer. Profiles that come with your printer driver may vary from
terrible to pretty good. Try printing a standard test image like the
Photodisc test image (to avoid bringing monitor casts into the issue) to your
printer with its canned profiles, and see what that offers for results. Then
see how the image looks on screen, and decide if you need a hardware monitor
calibrator, as well as perhaps needing custom printer profiles. Depending on
your level of expectations and your budget, the answers may vary.
