As far as I know Kodak is still working in the CMS business. From what I
can tell is, Kodak has been reorganizing and reconfiguring it's
businesses. Like many other corporations they have to contemplate
forever changing cycles in the photographic industry, commercial and
consumer. Resources are jostled around, including the color management
division.
Having said that. I don't see Profile Editor being heavily worked on
"specifically" for a while. I see more integration of CMS into current
and future products. For example: Input Profile Builder is built within
Capture Studio, (For the DCSPro digital cameras - for those who do not
know). You will also find Kodak's CMS in the prepress and photographic
lab software/equipment.
Profile Editor has features not yet available in todays applications,
"this is not for long other apps are catching up quickly". I am
seeing more side features creeping in other app's. For example change
profile from LAB to RGB - then edit. I think Kodak will eventually fall
behind on side features. It is likely that after the core CMS system,
end-users will buy on extra features.
What is amazing is for all the commercial photographic CMS guru of
guru's they're not using it - (open for war statement - don't get your
underwear in a bunch - if you like other great!). Maybe that can be
contributed to Kodaks poor marketing of ColorFlow (the CMS name).
Even if Profile Editor was to stop today, no a year ago, it is still a
very powerful tool. AND NO DONGLE OR OTHER CONTRAPTION! Profile Editor
works fine in OSX Classic. I suspect that it will work native in OSX
when migrate other applications.
I use it on either my G4 Tit laptop OSX 10.1.4/OS9.X or my G4 OS 9.X
desktop Soon to be converted to OSX/9.X. I have no system issues. It is
pretty solid.
OH, I forgot: No I do not work for Kodak. No, Kodak does not pay me. I
just think it is a great product. I do like other applications as well.
Will I use other applications? Yes, because I like neat features as well.
Joseph
If you are interested in more tools. Check out Kodak's Profile Editor.
Is Kodak still in the CMS business????
